Welcome to Ruby Victoria Letterpress & printmaking

Here you will find photos of all my original hand carved linocut prints and letterpress printing.
A commercial printer by trade a printmaker by choice.
I specialize in original handcarved lino block prints with a bit of letterpress thrown in for good measure.
All printed on antique printing machines with that unmistakable bite into the paper that you can only get with letterpress printing

The work that I do is not created on a computer everything is hand drawn then hand carved out of lino then printed one impression at a time on my tabletop letterpress machine

I do not use polymer which limits me somewhat in regards to type but I love to use traditional methods in my printing that involve handset type and hand carved designs and I think this is what make my work totally Original and Unique to what other people are doing right now and it also meaning everything I make is an original work of art
I love what I do and love to share it with others that are interested

My Rainy Days entry

so here it is my entry for the upcoming Rainy Days Exhibition at cube Art & design now situtated in their lovely little gallery at Salamanca .
the idea behind the show is to give each artist a small square canvas to work on and they can just go for it, any medium and theme the artist wants completely open slather .
This exhibition gives me a chance to show one of my more personal pieces that I haven't showed before as it is quite a bit different in theme to what people have seen so far from me, so it is going to be nice to see the reaction to the change.
This exhibition was a huge success last year with enteries not just from Tassie but from mainland Australia as well and this year promises to be even bigger with little canvas running out the door, poor Jemima is having a hard time keeping up with the demand ...Bless her !!
Opening Night is 14th July and the exhibition will run threw till
27th July so get down to Cube and get yourself a fantastic piece of affordable art .

Meet Me at Mikes : Envelope Project

The general idea is that we all send a decorated envelope filled with papery or crafty bits and bobs of our own choosing (but essentially light), to Pip. She will in turn display said envelope in the shop window and upload photos of it and it's contents to Flickr. At the end of 6 weeks the envelopes and goodies are collected together and sent to one random participant - yup the whole lot! please let it be me !!
If you would like to be involved just go to Pip blog here and sign yourself up

Have FUN!

More great luck

I hit the jackpot again today while looking through a local second hand store
I stumbled across all these vintage little golden book,
I just had to have them.

I am an absolutely smitten with the illustrations in the pre 1970's books
I just find them so much more lush to look at.

I also found this fantastic extremely heavy tape despenser .
I have been looking for another one of these for ages

All for a measily $16.00 unbelievable
*Happy dance*

Tip shopping treasures

Instead of going straight home after doing errands in town yesterday I decided to go for a little trip out past margate to the tipshop, I hadnt been out there for a while and I didnt much feel like going home to print so off I went and I am so glad I did look what I found !

I am not much of a sewer but this find is definately a good excuse to change that it was in a kit to make a lovely cushion out of lovely pre-cut squares of designer flanelette fabrics, so thick and gorgeous I have decided that with a little help from my friend Luisa danceinmygarden that I would like to make a cute little throw rug with it , so excited!

Something that most people might not know about me is I have a bit of a soft spot for witches and anything Halloweenish so when I found these I nearly squealed with delight someone was definately looking out for me yesterday.

Another thing people might not know about me is that when I was pregnant with my son some years ago I became obsessed with x- stitch, whenever I had a spare second to myself
I would be found stitching
Over the years I have completed and given away many many finished x- stitches.
I don't do them as much now as I have a new obsession, my printing but I still every now and then crack out the aida and threads and get stitching, I find it very therapeutic.

So when I found all of these x - stitch patterns and kits it was like christmas and for them to be all of my favourite designers that in most cases that when I was really into x- stitching I just couldnt afford to buy them and would just look at them longingly lol pathetic I know !

I just couldnt believe my luck yesterday I love tip shopping !

Salamanca markets Hobart Tasmania

Well we had Salamanca market again this weekend and it was cold again but no where near as cold as last time which was a pleasant surprise althought I did have 5 layers of clothes on a pair of tights undermy jeans thick socks under my ugg boots and my new scarf that was knitted for me by one of Allans fellow teachers, oh and dont forget the the deep heat patch on my back aaaaah ! and I cant forget to mention the thick rubber matting I bought to keep myself off the concrete, I seriously recommend getting some of this if you are going to be doing outdoor markets in the cold I think this saved me this time.

Sales were much better this time and we were situated right opposite the coffee lady so hot coffee and hot chocolate all day and it was bringing the customers in for me.
I had some visits from other local crafters during the day that is always nice to see familiar faces as well as a few blasts from the past, last time it was a past ceramics teacher and this time a fellow student from when I was doing my Arts Diploma many years ago.
I had a lovely day at the market this time and I am happy to say I can still walk so the layers of clothes and the heatpack must have worked.

Christmas Mid - year

I had a funny feeling this year was going to be a little crazy with market and related things!
It has come about that there will be two Christmas market mid year one in July at the Handmade Hobart Market which I know I will be at and the other in August at the Barn market on the Eastern Shore which i dont know if I will be at yet but would be like to be at as it will all be outside with beautfiful fairey lights christmas trees and gazebos circled around the courtyard i think it will look rather lovely.
So this week has been a busy one trying to get all the custom work finished so that I can get started making some new stock for these 2 markets as well as the upcoming Salamanca Market this weekend.
I recieved my 2 newest lots of type this week which is very exciting I love finding and collect old type and these new ones will be great for Christmas stationery and wedding invites.
