Welcome to Ruby Victoria Letterpress & printmaking

Here you will find photos of all my original hand carved linocut prints and letterpress printing.
A commercial printer by trade a printmaker by choice.
I specialize in original handcarved lino block prints with a bit of letterpress thrown in for good measure.
All printed on antique printing machines with that unmistakable bite into the paper that you can only get with letterpress printing

The work that I do is not created on a computer everything is hand drawn then hand carved out of lino then printed one impression at a time on my tabletop letterpress machine

I do not use polymer which limits me somewhat in regards to type but I love to use traditional methods in my printing that involve handset type and hand carved designs and I think this is what make my work totally Original and Unique to what other people are doing right now and it also meaning everything I make is an original work of art
I love what I do and love to share it with others that are interested

The Blackmans bay beach market

Well I had a fantastic time at the market today meeting up with familiar people and getting to know new ones.

It was lovely to puts some faces to name from blogger as well, It can get a little bit lonely bloggin away knowing like minded people are out there but you don't get to actually talk to them in the flesh so those of you that introduced yourselves thanks for that.

Sales wise I did pretty well better than last time at the beach market, I guess at that stage people were still getting to know about the market and what to expect to find there.
So many compliments and encouragement and people loving the drawings the prints come from and the letterpress.
To top the day off I had my tarot cards read by a clairvoyant named Voola, I had never had it done before and though now is as good a time as any and just for the record I am not going to be struck by lightening anytime soon , phew what a relief!! but seriously she was pretty spot about stuff and the strangest thing was Allan and I chose exactly the same first three cards, she now refers to us as the freaky people lol tell us something we dont know lol

The next beach Market will be the Christmas market and it look like it is going to be a biggy it will run a Friday night and a Saturday from 9am till 2pm i expect the table sizes will be a bit smaller so that more store holder will have the chance to sell .

I have to say Julie Hoddy is doing a fantastic job organising these markets it is alot of work, thanks Julie.

Oh and sorry about the lack of photos of the market as well I just didn't get time to take any but I will get some off someone there that took some and post them asap.

new stuff

I have been a busy little beaver the last week completing some new stuff for the coming markets and to stick in my etsy store .
I am really happy how the little note books turned out they fold out like the old matchbook's use to. to make them is a bit fiddly with all the creasing involved and me being me the creasing has to be sharp and perfect, I really am my own worst enemy most of the time but I am happy with how they turned out

The recipe cards are a bit of an experiment, not sure if people actually share recipes let alone cook at home any more! if the media is to be believed nobody does! we all eat out every night, piffle I say !!

comments on what you think would be kinda helpful I am creating blindly here at the moment

moving letterpress and printmaking to central Hobart

I am super excited as I have just found some where for my printing studio to go to get all my stuff out of the living room and kitchen and stop it from taking over the entire house.
I will start the moving tomorrow

The wonderful Pru Quarmby has allowed me to take possession of a little part of the huge building that holds her art supplied business .
Bibiani paper and textiles
3 Church street Hobart

You will be able to fine me working away up the side of the building through the red double doors that use to be a little meeting room its a bit draughty but hey I am in no position to complain and beside printers need an airy place to work I will just need to rug up till it gets a little warmer.

This is all abit sudden so there won't be any flash signage just follow your nose and come say hi

I think I will organise some kind of sign to put on the door when I am about .

Everyone is more than welcome to come have a look and come have a natter

The Market

Well we had a fantastic day at the market on sunday it turned out far better than I could have imagined.
The masonic Hall was packed for most of the day and from what I could see everyone that had a stall was kept very busy.
I was kept so busy all day that I didnt get to take any photos or even get to see what else was there for sale but believe me I am not complaining.
We got such a fantastic response, teachers wanting me to do workshops at their schools, people from interstate giving me names of contacts to call and show my stuff to, locals wanting to have business cards with a difference printed, I even had a Hari christianer ask me for printing to be done !!
You just never know who you are going to come in contact with at markets I just love them.

I think the nicest things of the day was the interest from locals that were asking if I would be back there next market but I guess it is up to the organisers and space availability I may be too late this time around.
Another high light of the day was the group of ladys from Melbourne that loved my work and bought alot of stuff to take back with them, their enthusiasm was very reassuring. If you read this, Thank you so much you really made my day !!
All in all It was a great day lovely people, lovely venue and a fantastic place to sell you handmade items.
